Doug Wilson, Co-founder and Chairman of CLA-OC, was recently featured at IMPACT 20, an event viewed by over 11,000 professional attendees around the country, and recently broke the Guinness World Record for the largest internet marketing conference in one week. Doug was brought on to discuss ideas on the impact of building better leaders and strengthening communities, which is one of the foundational ideas behind CLA-OC and the organization’s purpose to create more impactful leaders in the Orange County area. Here are a few key ideas he shared with the virtual audience.
Diversity & Opportunity
According to recent demographic data from the US Census Bureau, 34% of the population in Orange County is Hispanic, and 20% is of Asian descent. Doug referenced these facts, and how diversity is a special component of OC. He discussed the importance of growing a wider, more diverse network of professionals to further potential opportunities. The Greater Los Angeles region, which includes Orange County, is ranked the 6th most innovative region in the world by Startup Genome. In Orange County, companies are making a growing investment in hiring from a vast and mixed talent pool in the area. Within CLA-OC, young professionals in the Orange Fellowship program, who in October came together for their first social event, is one example of leaders growing leaders in OC.
Growing the Artificial Intelligence Community
Doug also emphasized the subculture of deep technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, that is growing every year in Orange County. Businesses like Anduril Industries and Medtronic and local universities have been significantly involved in increasing connectivity through technology and building OC into the next global AI superhub.
